ARC core handles the pressure

St. Albans, England: Medical device company CVRx chose a member of ARC International’s configurable ARC 600 core family to drive its Rheos Baroreflex Hypertension Therapy System. CVRx opted for the configurable ARC core because of its small size, ability to operate using low power, and long-term reliability, according to ARC.

The Rheos System reduces blood pressure by using the human body’s natural blood pressure regulation system (the baroreflex). It electrically stimulates the baroreflex, which sends signals to the brain suggesting a blood pressure increase. Thus, the brain acts to lower blood pressure by sending signals to parts of the body, e.g. the blood vessels, heart, and kidneys.

Included in the Rheos System is a small pulse generator that’s implanted under the collar bone. In addition, there are two thin leads wrapped around the left and right carotid arteries, as well as a programmer system.
