San Jose, CA, USA: Application segments of Skype or other PCbased VoIP systems can now take advantage of a novel highly integrated USB audio controller. Developed by Winbond Electronics Corporation America, a subsidiary of the Winbond Electronics Corp., Taiwan, the W681308 controller is claimed to provide a single-chip, one-stop solution for a variety of Skype and other PCbased VoIP applications.

Such applications range from wired and wireless USB handsets, USB speaker phones, and PSTN/USB dual mode phones, to USB PSTN gateways, USB Analog Telephone Adapters (ATAs), and wireless USB 2.4GHz base/handsets. It can replace three to four devices in, and offers very low BOM costs for, PC-based VoIP applications.
