Essex, England: A joint venture involving vocoders was agreed upon between CML Microcircuits (UK) Ltd. and SPIRIT DSP. CML is a low-power semiconductor supplier for the global wireless and wireline communication markets, while SPIRIT DSP offers embedded voice, audio, and communication software products.

The crux of the agreement is joint production of low-bit-rate RALCWI vocoder ICs. CML will provide ICs to the worldwide communication markets based on SPIRIT’s proprietary low bit-rate vocoder technology.

"This agreement with SPIRIT achieves our objective of providing communication product designers with a single, highly integrated IC for their low-bit-rate voice-processing requirements," says Malcolm Lyman, marketing manager for CML.
