Yokohama, Japan: Sony Corp. renewed and updated its license for Tensilica’s Xtensa LX2 configurable processor. Targeted at system-on-a-chip (SoC) designs, the LX2 provides the I/O bandwidth, compute parallelism, and low-power optimisation equivalent to hand-optimised, RTLdesigned, non-programmable hardware blocks.
“Sony’s engineers realise the value of using a configurable processor to lower power and significantly improve performance in handheld, battery-powered devices,” explained Chris Rowen, Tensilica’s president and CEO. “We expect the Xtensa LX2 processor core will be used in designing Sony’s future consumer products and look forward to working with them on their nextgeneration design projects.”
